ADC Convention: No Judge Should Allow Himself to Destroy Nigeria – Tambuwal

Former Sokoto State Governor and serving Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has urged the Nigerian judiciary not to allow itself to be used in destroying the country.

Tambuwal made the strong appeal on Tuesday at the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held in Abuja. The former Speaker of the House of Representatives warned that history is recording the actions of individuals, especially those in critical national institutions.

“We are in very interesting times in Nigeria today, where pseudo Democrats found their way to power, and they are today manifestly exposing themselves,” he said.“

My appeal is not to the members of ADC for now, but to those who are living and heading our institutions, particularly, and of very concern to me, the judiciary.”Tambuwal reminded judges of past events, referencing the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.“

"Let me remind those of you who are living today of the Judge that was used to truncate June 12, 1993 elections. Let no judge or justice allow himself to be used to destroy Nigeria.”

He stressed the importance of accountability and divine judgment, urging judicial officers to resist any form of influence that could undermine democracy.“History is taking note of our roles as individuals. Our children and grandchildren are looking up to us to save this country,” Tambuwal added.

“And those of you that are in privileged positions should be accountable and bear in mind that wherever you are writing your judgment or rulings, even if there is no any individual by your side, God Almighty is watching over you, and God Almighty will be the ultimate judge on the Day of Judgment.”

“So be wary of those individuals or people that will be talking to you to influence you, to undermine our judicial system, undermine our country and undermine our democracy.”The remarks were made as the ADC continues its efforts to build a strong opposition platform ahead of future elections.
