Accreditation Begins at ADC National Convention Venue

Accreditation has officially commenced at the Rainbow Event Centre in Garki, Abuja, as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) kicks off its much-anticipated national convention.

No fewer than 3,000 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have converged at the venue, arriving in vibrant, colourful attire that reflects the party’s unity and diversity.

Security operatives carried out thorough checks on all arrivals before granting them access to the facility. The accreditation process is being supervised by the accreditation sub-committee, chaired by Austin Akobundu.

Speaking at the venue, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, disclosed that the number of delegates allocated to each state was based on the state’s size to ensure fair and equitable representation.

However, Idigo expressed frustration over the hurdles the party faced in securing a suitable venue. According to him, several private venue owners turned down the ADC’s requests due to alleged external pressures and threats.“We wrote to use the Eagle Square but received no response. Our request for the Velodrome at the National Stadium was also denied without any explanation,” he said.

Idigo added that even after securing the Rainbow Event Centre, attempts were allegedly made to force its cancellation. “We approached several venues, including hotels and event centres, but once they realised it was ADC, they declined, citing fear of possible repercussions,” he lamented.

He criticised the situation, saying businesses in Nigeria should be allowed to operate freely without intimidation, noting that the disruptions have caused significant financial losses to private operators. The national convention is expected to conclude the party’s congresses, ratify a new constitution, and pave the way for the selection of candidates ahead of future elections.

The event is being held under the theme “So the Nation May Work,” with delegates already expressing optimism about the proceedings.
