The Obidient Movement has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevent Peter Obi from securing a platform to contest the 2027 presidential election.
National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, made the allegation while speaking with journalists on Monday. He claimed that INEC’s recent delisting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is part of a deliberate, long-term strategy to block Obi’s political ambitions.
Tanko alleged that the plot began after the 2023 general election, with orchestrated crises injected into Obi’s former party, the Labour Party, to deny him a stable political base.“Despite Obi’s relentless efforts to restore peace, government infiltrators aided by a compromised judiciary consistently thwarted these attempts,” he said.
According to Tanko, after Obi moved to the ADC and injected fresh energy into the party, the alleged sabotage intensified. He claimed the ruling party pushed amendments to the Electoral Act specifically to target the ADC and undermine Obi’s chances.
The movement’s coordinator pointed to recent events as the tipping point: Obi’s visit to former Kano Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on March 22, 2026, and the massive ADC rally in Kano on March 30, where Kwankwaso formally joined the party. He alleged that in response, the government pressured INEC to misinterpret an Appeal Court ruling, resulting in the delisting of the ADC’s leadership.
Tanko described the development as “a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy” and accused INEC of acting as a tool for the ruling party to manipulate the political space ahead of 2027.
