In a significant political development, Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement came via a statement posted on his social media handles, where he formally declared his switch to the APC. Dr. Magayaki cited the prevailing political realities in Zamfara State as the key reason for his decision, emphasizing the need to align with a platform better equipped to tackle pressing issues.
In his statement, he said: “I, Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, the Zamfara State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hereby announce my formal defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). My decision to join the APC is based on the current political reality in Zamfara State, which demands alignment with a platform better positioned to address the challenges of security, development and governance for the benefit of our people.”
This defection follows closely on the heels of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal's own switch from the PDP to the APC just days earlier. The governor's move, along with that of his deputy, has further weakened the PDP's structure in the state and signaled a broader realignment ahead of future elections, including preparations for 2027.
Dr. Magayaki's exit as PDP chairman leaves the opposition party in a precarious position in Zamfara, where internal challenges and recent high-profile defections appear to be reshaping the political dynamics in favor of the APC. No immediate reactions from PDP leadership were reported in connection with this latest development.
