The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday morning received the remains of Senator Barinada Mpigi, the late representative of Rivers South-East Senatorial District, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Wike arrived around 5:30 a.m. with a delegation of political leaders to pay his respects and welcome the grieving family. He personally greeted the senator’s wife, Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and their children as they arrived with the body.
Senator Mpigi, aged 64 and former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, died in London on Thursday, February 19, 2026, after a brief illness. Wike had traveled to London last week to console the family and help arrange the repatriation of the remains.
Among those present were PDP BoT factional Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Senators Philip Aduda, Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh, and Olaka Nwogu, House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, Rivers Renewed Hope Ambassadors Coordinator Ambassador Desmond Akawor, APC South-South Vice Chairman Victor Giadom, and other dignitaries.
