The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has strongly insisted that the national convention scheduled for March 29, 2026, must proceed without delay.
They have outright rejected any suggestion of establishing another caretaker committee to replace the existing one.
This position was reiterated amid ongoing reconciliation efforts between the Wike-backed group and rival factions, including those associated with Tanimu Turaki and PDP governors.
National Publicity Secretary of the Wike-aligned National Caretaker Committee, Haruna Mohammed, outlined the group's firm conditions for any talks: “We are open for reconciliation but we have conditions that are non-negotiable.
"Number one condition... is that the March 29 national convention is not negotiable. It must hold.
"The congresses are ongoing in the local government areas and states. Number two condition is that the setting up of another national Caretaker Committee in whatever name should not be entertained because there is already one in place.”
The faction, led by the Abdulrahman Mohammed caretaker structure, views the convention as essential for electing a new National Working Committee and stabilizing the party following prolonged internal disputes, court interventions, and leadership vacuums.
