US President Donald Trump says the war against Iran could end soon without confirming a definite timeline.
“It’s going to be ended soon, and if it starts up again
they’ll be hit even harder,” the US president told lawmakers on Monday.
When asked whether “soon” means in a week, Trump responded,
“No, but I think soon”.
Hours later, Trump warned that if Iran stops the flow of oil
within the Strait of Hormuz, “they will be hit by the United States of America
TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they have been hit thus far”.
After his comments, oil prices which shot to their highest
level since 2022 at $120, dropped to $90 a barrel on Tuesday, marking the first
decline since the war in the Middle East began.
However, Iran has rebuffed Trump’s comments.
A spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
(IRGC) said, “Iran will determine when the war ends”.
Tehran will not allow “one liter of oil” to be exported from
the region if US and Israeli attacks continue, the IRGC spokesperson warned.
In a separate interview with PBS News, Abbas Araghchi,
Iran’s foreign minister, said talking or negotiating with the US is no longer
on the agenda, after “a very bitter experience” during previous rounds of
nuclear talks.
“They promised us that they don’t have any intention to
attack us, and they wanted to resolve Iran’s nuclear question peacefully and
find a negotiated solution. Still, they decided to attack us,” Araghchi said.
The foreign minister reiterated that Iran would continue to
defend itself.
