Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday issued a warning to Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, suggesting that Israel could target him directly even as he acknowledged that Tehran’s government might endure the ongoing military campaign.
Speaking at his first press briefing since the outbreak of
the conflict, Netanyahu said Iran “is no longer the same” after nearly two
weeks of coordinated Israeli and U.S. airstrikes.
The bombardments have reportedly inflicted severe damage on
Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards Corps and the Basij paramilitary force.
Netanyahu also pledged continued strikes against
Lebanon-based, Iran-backed Hezbollah following the group’s attack on March 2,
which was reportedly carried out in retaliation for Israel’s killing of Iran’s
late supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, the father of Mojtaba Khamenei, at the start
of the conflict.
When asked about potential action against Mojtaba Khamenei
and Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, Netanyahu stated:
“I wouldn’t issue life insurance policies on any of the
leaders of the terrorist organization … I don’t intend to provide an exact
report here about what we are planning or what we are going to do.”
