Ghana’s foreign affairs ministry says two of the country’s
citizens were injured by a drone attack near the Dubai International Airport,
United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a statement, Sam Ablakwa, Ghana’s foreign affairs
minister, said the attack happened on Wednesday.
Earlier, the UAE’s Ministry of Defence said the country’s
air defences were intercepting incoming missiles and drones from Iran.
In a statement on Tuesday, the UAE said its air defences
have detected 262 ballistic missiles from Iran since the war began on February
28.
The UAE defence ministry said 241 out of the 262 missiles
were destroyed, while 19 fell into the sea, and two fell on the country’s
territory.
At least one Nigerian was identified among 122 persons
injured by the interception of Iranian ballistic missiles in the UAE.
Ablakwa said the Ghanaian ambassador in UAE led a team from
the embassy in Abu Dhabi and consulate in Dubai to visit the victims as the
foreign ministry coordinates emergency consular assistance.
“The Government of Ghana condemns the attack and reiterates
calls for a cessation in hostilities,” the foreign minister said.
He noted that Ghana is actively engaged with international
partners on a UN resolution urging de-escalation.
