Turaki-led PDP NWC rejects Wike faction’s dissolution of Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo state excos

The national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, has rejected the dissolution of the state executive committees in Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo by a faction backed by Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

On Saturday, the Wike group held a congress in Ekiti and elected Lanre Omolase as the PDP chairman in the south-west state.

In a statement, Ini Ememobong, national publicity secretary of the Turaki PDP faction, described the move as “illegal and unwarranted”.

Ememobong said the dissolution undermines ongoing reconciliation efforts within the opposition party and is aimed at deepening internal divisions.

“We have seen a purported announcement of the dissolution of the elected state executive committees in Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo states. This dissolution, which is illegal and unwarranted, is an affront to the proposed reconciliation for which talks are underway,” the statement reads.

He added that the dissolution is “null, void and of no effect whatsoever”.

Ememobong asked members of the PDP in the affected states, including officers at the local government and ward levels, to disregard the dissolution and continue performing their duties.

Ememobong said the party leadership remains committed to reconciliation, noting that the push for peace is intended to strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our desire for peace must be understood in the context of the need for the salvation of the party for the forthcoming elections, and not misconstrued otherwise,” he said.

Following the appeal court judgement nullifying the PDP national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo, which produced Turaki as chairman, party stakeholders have urged both factions to reconcile to ensure the party does not miss the opportunity to field candidates in the 2027 elections.

On Tuesday, former Senate President Bukola Saraki advised the party to end all legal battles, set aside personal interests, and focus on organising a new national convention ahead of the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the 2027 election timetable.
