Tuggar to Resign as Foreign Affairs Minister, Join Bauchi Governorship Race

Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, is set to resign from his position to contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027, reliable sources have confirmed.

The move comes in compliance with a directive issued by President Bola Tinubu, which requires all political appointees interested in contesting elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before Monday, March 31, 2026.

Dewan Goshit, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), announced the directive in a statement released on Tuesday.

Sources close to the minister say Tuggar has already begun consultations and is expected to formally resign within the stipulated timeframe to enable him to pursue the governorship ticket in Bauchi State.

Tuggar, a seasoned diplomat and former Ambassador to Germany, was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in August 2023. His potential entry into the Bauchi gubernatorial race is expected to significantly alter the political dynamics in the North-East state ahead of the 2027 polls.
