Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled a series of coordinated attacks by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on Forward Operating Bases in Gajiram, Gajigana, and Mayanti in Borno State.
The assaults, which occurred between the late hours of Saturday, February 28, and the early hours of Sunday, March 1, 2026, targeted military positions in Sector 2.
According to military authorities, the terrorists launched the attacks in a desperate bid to regain ground amid sustained pressure on their hideouts, supply routes, and command structures.
In a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI, the troops demonstrated strong resilience and battlefield superiority, forcing the attackers into disorderly retreats with significant casualties.
Exploitation of the battle areas confirmed the recovery of five terrorist corpses and a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition.
Items recovered include:
Three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns
Two RPG-7 tubes
Four AK-47 rifles
Two FN rifles
Three RPG bombs
Large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition
Five anti-tank bombs
Three locally fabricated mortar bombs
One armed drone
Six fully loaded 7.62mm NATO magazines
Barbed wire cutters
Specialised ammunition
Poisoned arrows
Additional AK-47 rifles and other items
The statement emphasized that all attacked locations remain firmly under the control of Nigerian troops.
The scale of recoveries and confirmed enemy losses highlight the continued degradation of ISWAP's combat capabilities in the region.
Operation HADIN KAI continues to intensify offensive operations across its sectors to deny terrorists freedom of action and protect civilian communities in the Northeast.
No casualties were reported among the troops during the engagements.
