Security forces in Zamfara State have arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Mannir Adam, for allegedly transporting 800 rounds of AK-47 ammunition concealed inside the fuel tank of a red Boxer motorcycle.
The arrest occurred around 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday at a security checkpoint in Yankara along the Gusau–Funtua highway.
The suspect, from Yankuzo village in Tsafe Local Government Area, was intercepted during a routine check.
A thorough search by operatives revealed the 800 live rounds carefully hidden in the motorcycle’s fuel tank.
Preliminary findings indicate that Mannir Adam collected the ammunition from the Bawa area in Saminaka LGA of Kaduna State and was heading to Kucheri village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara, where it is suspected to supply armed bandits operating in the region.
Security sources described the interception as a significant blow to illegal arms supply networks fueling banditry and insecurity in Zamfara and neighboring states.
The suspect is in custody, with ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling the broader network involved in the arms trafficking.
