The Senegalese FA is planning to parade the 2025 AFCON trophy before the country’s forthcoming international friendly against Peru.
Senegal won the 2025 AFCON on the pitch against Morocco in
the final on January 18, but a ruling by CAF’s Appeals Board on March 17
stripped the Teranga Lions of the title and named Morocco the champions.
The Appeals Board ruling said Senegal had breached Articles
82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations after several of its players walked off the
pitch to their dressing room in protest of a referee’s decision.
Senegal had filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration
for Sport (CAS), seeking to overturn the earlier CAF ruling.
Amid the uncertainty, the AFCON trophy presentation was
included in the schedule of events ahead of Senegal’s friendly against Peru at
the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday.
The schedule of activities was posted on the Teranga Lions’
official social media page on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference in Paris, Abdoulaye Fall, the
Senegalese FA president, described the CAF ruling as “unprecedented
administrative robbery in the history of our sport”.
He added that the country is prepared to wage a “moral and
legal crusade” against the decision.
“Faced with what amounts to the most blatant and
unprecedented administrative robbery in the history of our sport, the
Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) refuses to accept this as inevitable,”
Fall said.
“Senegal will not bend the knee and will not compromise its
values. Our fight now transcends the football pitch.”
