Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has held discussions with the Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, on the persistent security challenges plaguing communities in Southern Kaduna.
The meeting took place at the Federal Ministry of Defence in Abuja, with Katung describing it as a vital step toward securing stronger federal intervention to restore peace and protect lives and property in the affected areas.
In a statement released on Saturday, March 7, 2026, Katung expressed satisfaction with the minister's response, noting Musa's strong commitment to addressing the issues and his readiness to support efforts for improved security.
“The meeting was a crucial step towards addressing security concerns affecting some of our communities in Kaduna South Senatorial District,” Katung said.
He praised the minister's approach as “comprehensive,” extending beyond the senatorial district to the broader needs of Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole.
The senator highlighted the need for collaboration among political leaders, security agencies, and community stakeholders, stating: “As a representative of the people, I am committed to working with the minister and other stakeholders to find lasting solutions to our security challenges.”
Katung also paid tribute to security personnel, acknowledging their tireless efforts and sacrifices: “Our security personnel work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. Their sacrifices deserve our appreciation and support.”
Southern Kaduna has faced recurring insecurity in recent years, including banditry, kidnappings, and communal clashes, prompting repeated calls for enhanced federal and state collaboration to safeguard residents.
The senator assured constituents of his ongoing engagement with authorities and urged citizens to support security forces by providing useful intelligence.
No specific new measures or timelines were detailed from the meeting, but Katung expressed optimism about the partnership yielding long-term improvements in peace and stability for the region.
