Senator Magnus Abe Confirmed As Board Chairman Of NUPRC

The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of former Rivers South-East Senator, Magnus Abe, as the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The confirmation was announced during plenary on Tuesday, marking a significant development in the leadership of the nation’s upstream petroleum regulatory body.

In addition to Senator Abe’s confirmation, the Senate also approved the appointments of Sunday Adebayo and Paul Yaro as Non-Executive Commissioners of the NUPRC.

The appointments are expected to bring fresh perspectives and strengthened governance to the commission, which plays a critical role in regulating Nigeria’s oil and gas upstream sector, overseeing licensing rounds, revenue collection, and host community development initiatives.

Senator Magnus Abe, a seasoned politician and lawyer, has previously served as a Commissioner for Information in Rivers State and as a Senator of the Federal Republic. His appointment is seen by industry watchers as a strategic move to inject experienced leadership into the NUPRC at a time when the sector continues to undergo reforms aimed at boosting investment and production.

Further details on when the new board members will assume office are expected to be released by the Presidency in due course.
