Sanwo-Olu Distributes Smart Tablets to 600,000 Lagos Students

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the distribution of smart digital learning tablets and core textbooks to no fewer than 600,000 public secondary school students across the state.

The move forms a key part of the “Hope for Digital Education” programme, aimed at deepening technology-driven learning in public schools.

It builds on previous device distributions that started during the 2020 pandemic and continued with smart devices in 2023.

The initiative aligns with the education and technology pillar of the governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda. It combines hardware (smart tablets) with curriculum-aligned digital content, physical textbooks, and performance-based incentives for students, teachers, and parents.Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the project is more than just handing out devices.

It seeks to equip Lagos students with 21st-century skills, improve learning outcomes, and prepare them for a technology-driven economy.

Officials have stressed that the tablets are strictly for educational purposes. This latest phase represents a structured, long-term approach to digital transformation in the state’s secondary education system, helping to bridge the digital divide.
