Police arrest alleged gun manufacturer in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have apprehended a suspected illegal gun manufacturer and recovered several locally made firearms along with equipment believed to have been used for their production.

The arrest followed a raid carried out in the early hours of March 6, 2026, at about 5:00 a.m. in Emuhu community, located in Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

The operation was conducted by members of the police Raiders Squad under the leadership of the unit’s commander, Akanya Agbogha, after receiving credible intelligence about an alleged illegal firearms fabrication site in the community.

During the operation, the officers arrested a 59-year-old suspect identified as Friday Ojei. A search of the premises reportedly led to the discovery of four locally manufactured guns.

Police also recovered several items believed to be used in producing the weapons, including a welding machine, drilling machine, grinding machine, and a number of metal pipes.

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to track down other individuals connected to the illegal firearm production network.

Edafe noted that the raid was carried out based on actionable intelligence indicating the existence of a suspected firearms manufacturing facility in the area.

In another development, a joint patrol team made up of officers from the Ovwian-Aladja Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ekundayo Friday, along with Police Raiders Volunteers, Anti-Cult Volunteers, and Hunters Volunteers, recovered an additional firearm during a routine stop-and-search exercise.

The patrol team was carrying out checks along Film Hall Road in Ovwian-Aladja when they noticed a group of suspected hoodlums who fled immediately after sighting the security operatives.

The officers pursued the individuals, who abandoned a black bag while escaping. A search of the bag led to the recovery of a locally fabricated short gun.

Police said the weapon has been taken into custody as an exhibit while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening intelligence-led policing and proactive security operations across the state. He also commended the officers involved in the operations for their vigilance and professionalism.
