The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba community that left several residents dead and others injured.
The curfew, which began at midnight on March 29, will remain
in effect until April 1, 2026.
According to the Commissioner for Information and
Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the measure is aimed at restoring
peace, preventing further violence, and protecting lives and property in Jos
North LGA.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it
as “barbaric and unprovoked”, and assured residents that security forces have
been deployed across Jos North LGA to bring the perpetrators to justice and
maintain order during the curfew.
Villagers say that gunmen stormed the Angwan Rukuba
community on Sunday night, causing multiple fatalities and injuries.
As at the time of this report official figures are still
being confirmed.
Residents were urged to stay indoors and fully comply with
the curfew to ensure their safety.
