Christopher Musa, minister of defence, on Thursday met Vernon Coaker, the British minister of state for defence, at Lancaster House, London.
Musa and Coaker met to hold bilateral talks on defence
partnerships between Nigeria and the United Kingdom (UK).
Musa is part of the Nigerian delegation who accompanied
President Bola Tinubu for his state visit to the UK.
Earlier, Tinubu met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at
10 Downing Street for bilateral discussions.
The presidency had said the meeting between both leaders
will culminate in the signing of various memoranda of understanding (MoU) and
agreements, including on defence.
In his speech on Wednesday night, Tinubu said Nigeria’s
partnership with the UK is essential for tackling terrorism in the Sahel.
A statement issued by Timothy Antigha, Musa’s media adviser,
said the minister acknowledged the security challenges currently facing
Nigeria, noting that terrorism and allied threats to national security will be
defeated.
“I want to appeal to all Nigerians to continue to support
the government and the Armed Forces for us to have a safe and secured country,”
Musa added.
He thanked Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and hailed
the British government for a wonderful reception.
