Oyo court arraigns four over alleged demolition of NRC property

An Oyo State Magistrate Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has arraigned four persons over the alleged unlawful demolition of a property owned by the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, in the Odo-Ona area of the city.

The property, which had been leased to Ibadan-based lawyer, Olusegun Abayomi, was reportedly demolished with excavators on February 2, 2026.

The accused, Jubril Amodu, Adekunle Moses, Akintola Olaoluwa, and Mustapha Mohammed, are staff members of a firm identified as Planet Projects Limited.

They faced charges of unlawful demolition, theft, assault, and forcible entry. All four pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Prosecutor Akeem Akinloye told the court that the defendants, alongside others still at large, allegedly conspired to commit the offences on the stated date.

He explained that they forcefully entered the NRC property at Ago Taylor (Mile 110), Odo-Ona, demolished the building, and stole electrical materials valued at approximately N10 million.

Akinloye further stated that the defendants assaulted two persons, identified as Oluwatoyin Adegoke and Oluwabamise Dada.

According to the prosecutor, the suspects also allegedly seized the victims’ mobile phones at gunpoint, demanded their passwords, accessed the devices, and deleted video footage recorded during the demolition.

Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted each defendant bail in the sum of N5 million, with two sureties each, also in the sum of N5 million.

She directed that one of the sureties must be a landed property owner with proof of ownership, while the other must be a blood relative of the defendant.

The court adjourned the case until April 16, 2026, for further hearing.
