Oyo 2027: Adelabu, Shittu, Olaniyan set to leave Tinubu government

Three indigenes of Oyo State who are currently working with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are expected to resign from their positions any moment from now

The trio are expected to leave Tinubu’s government before March 31 this year.

Our correspondent gathered that their resolve to resign is sequel to a directive by the President earlier this week.

Recall that Tinubu had, a few days ago, directed all political appointees under his administration seeking to contest elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign before March 31.

Head of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Dewan Goshit, made this declaration in a statement issued on Tuesday. https://dailypost.ng/2026/03/17/tinubu-orders-political-appointees-seeking-elective-offices-to-resign-before-march-31/

It was, however, gathered that three people, among whom are Mr Adebayo Adelabu, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, and Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, are expected to resign.

The trio are gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

They are expected to resign in order to pursue their gubernatorial ambitions in the 2027 general elections in the state.

Adelabu, who hails from Ibadan, the state capital, is the current Minister of Power. He was appointed by Tinubu in 2023.

Shittu, who is the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Dave Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences in Ebonyi State, had earlier served as Minister of Communications under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shittu, who is from Saki in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone, was appointed by Tinubu in June 2024.

Olaniyan, a former Deputy Governor of the state, is the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo.

He assumed the position in July 2024.

None of the three individuals has resigned from their positions.

They are, however, expected to resign any moment from now in order to pursue their gubernatorial ambitions.
