Osimhen set for surgery after fracturing arm against Liverpool

Victor Osimhen has fractured his arm in Galatasaray’s 4-0 defeat at Liverpool in their UCL round of 16 second leg tie on Wednesday.

A club statement released on Thursday revealed that Osimhen’s fracture was confirmed following hospital examination.

Osimhen clashed with Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool central defender, in the early exchanges of the match during an aerial duel. Konate landed on Osimhen’s arm, and the striker stayed down in pain, while Liverpool players insinuated the 27-year-old former Napoli star was faking injury to halt Liverpool’s momentum.

Osimhen, in visible pain, had his fore arm wrapped in a bandage to finish the first half, but was replaced at the start of the second half as Liverpool ran riot to seal a 4-0 win that saw the Turkish champions crash out of the UCL.

The club further revealed that Osimhen’s hand has been put in a medical cast, and it is considering the option of surgery for the Nigerian international

“In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.

“After the match, under the supervision of our medical team, examinations at the hospital revealed a fracture in our player’s right forearm, and it was casted.

“A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further evaluations.”

Osimhen was also joined on the injury list by Noa Lang, his replacement in the match, who suffered a serious cut to his right thumb. The club, however, said that, unlike Osimhen, Lang will have surgery in Liverpool and return to Turkey.

Osimhen was Galatasaray’s leader in the UCL with crucial contributions until his injury and subsequent substitution. He scored seven goals and provided three assists in 10 matches, earning four man-of-the-match awards.
