Omisore Drags APC to Court Over Osun Governorship Primaries

Senator Iyiola Omisore, former Deputy Governor of Osun State and immediate past National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has filed a lawsuit against the party at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, escalating internal divisions within the Osun APC ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The suit, listed as FHC/OS/CS/261/2025 – Senator Iyiola Omisore v. APC & ANR, appeared on the court docket for hearing on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Reports indicate the case challenges aspects of the party's governorship primaries process held in December 2025, during which Omisore and several other aspirants were disqualified from contesting.

Omisore was among seven aspirants barred by the APC screening committee shortly before the primary, citing alleged issues with nomination forms and other requirements.

The disqualification paved the way for Bola Oyebamiji backed by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to emerge as the party's consensus candidate and eventual primary winner.

The legal action has sparked fresh crisis in the Osun APC chapter, with sources describing it as deepening tensions and potentially complicating the party's preparations for the governorship race.

Some reports suggest the suit questions the conduct and legitimacy of the primaries process. However, Senator Omisore has publicly denied instituting any fresh court action against the APC over the governorship primaries.

In a statement, he dismissed circulating reports and documents related to the purported suit as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

He highlighted inconsistencies in the circulated court papers, including questionable dates, and noted that no gubernatorial screening or primary had occurred at the time some claims suggested.

Omisore urged party members, supporters, and the public to disregard the reports, insisting he has not filed any case against the APC concerning the forthcoming election.

The development comes despite earlier reconciliatory moves, including Omisore's acceptance of President Bola Tinubu's decision on the consensus candidate and his expressed loyalty to the party.

The ongoing dispute risks further fracturing unity in the Osun APC as it positions itself for the 2026 poll. The Federal High Court is expected to provide clarity on the matter in due course.
