Nigerian footballer Daniel Daga has been found guilty of s^xual assault and sentenced to six months in prison following an incident involving a woman last year.
The verdict was handed down on Tuesday by the Romsdal
district court in Norway, as reported by TV2 Norway.
In addition to the prison term, the court ordered Daga to
cover NOK 10,000 in legal costs as requested by the prosecution.
The 19-year-old athlete, who plays for Molde FK, faced
accusations of s^xually assaulting an unnamed woman. The incident reportedly
occurred in April, while he was charged on December 19, 2025.
Despite the conviction, Astrid Bolstad, Daga’s legal
representative, has maintained her client’s innocence. She argued that the
encounter was consensual and announced plans to appeal the ruling.
“He is terribly sorry that the verdict was the way it was,”
Bolstad said. “He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with
consent.”
In response to the court’s decision, Molde FK released a
statement confirming that Daga has been sidelined indefinitely.
“Based on the situation and the ongoing legal process, the
club has decided that the player will not be part of the match squad until
further notice,” the club said.
Daga, who plays as a midfielder for the Nigeria national
under-20 football team, joined Molde at the start of the 2025 season and has
since made 15 appearances, scoring three goals for the Norwegian club.
