Isaac Fayose, the brother of the former Ekiti governor, says
his wife is battling cancer.
In a video shared via Instagram, Fayose, who appeared
emotional, revealed that his wife’s illness has left her extremely frail and
unable to speak or carry out basic activities.
“I’m in Australia to spend time with my family, but this
visit has not been easy. My wife is battling cancer. When I arrived, she was so
weak that she couldn’t talk,” he said.
“The same woman who usually picks me up at the airport
couldn’t come, so I had to take an Uber. She used to cook for me, but now I
find myself cooking for her. She can neither cook nor speak. I sat beside her
and sang her favourite song; she couldn’t respond, but she held my hand as I
sang.
“You politicians taking people’s money, have you forgotten
that a day like this will come? How long do we really have on earth that we
make others suffer and take what belongs to them?
“My million-dollar house couldn’t save my wife, not even my
wealth. So why make others poor by taking what belongs to them when we will all
leave this world someday?”
Fayose said the experience has changed his perspective,
adding that he would dedicate himself and his resources to speaking up for the
masses, while alleging that some politicians have attempted to bribe him for
support.
He lamented the state of the country, calling on leaders,
including President Bola Tinubu, to prioritise the welfare of citizens and
address the challenges facing public institutions.
“My lesson today is this: if I had just one hour left on
earth, I would use my voice, time, and wealth for the people. I came with
nothing and will leave with nothing. Those trying to bribe me to be on your
side, what will I do with the money? It couldn’t even save my wife,” he added
“We couldn’t go to church on Palm Sunday because she is too
weak. Why take what belongs to others just to satisfy ourselves, when one day
we will all return to our Maker?
“President Tinubu, you are 74 today. You are no longer a
child. Please rest and allow someone else to fix the country. People are
suffering.
“Hospitals in Ekiti lack electricity and water in the maternity ward. Even as I sat with my wife, I was sent videos. Please, politicians, think about it. You will leave this world one day. Do something for the people.”
