The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has strongly criticised allegations by Israel's Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, that Iran is sponsoring Islamic movements in the country as part of a global terrorism network, labelling the claims as reckless and dangerous to Nigeria's social harmony.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, MPAC described the accusations made during a recent interview on AriseTV as potentially inflammatory in a nation where religious coexistence is vital for stability.
The group warned that linking Nigeria's Shia Muslim community, particularly the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), to international geopolitical conflicts could erode trust among citizens and import external rivalries into the country.
MPAC expressed particular concern amid heightened Middle East tensions, urging against turning Nigeria into a battleground for foreign propaganda or disputes.
The organisation called on the Federal Government and security agencies to approach such allegations cautiously, insisting that national security policies must rely on verified intelligence and prioritise Nigeria's interests over unproven narratives.
MPAC highlighted the risks of "manufactured intelligence" influencing decisions without solid evidence.
The statement also referenced separate disputed claims, including allegations by US Congressman Scott Perry about possible diversion of USAID funds to groups like Boko Haram, ISIS, and Al-Qaeda.
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has similarly denied the allegations against it and Iran, calling them false and provocative.
MPAC appealed to Shia community members to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and cooperative with authorities to safeguard national unity.
While reaffirming support for peaceful global advocacy, including on the Palestinian issue, the group cautioned Nigerians against allowing international conflicts to undermine domestic cohesion.
MPAC reiterated its commitment to justice, peace, and Nigeria's unity, urging citizens to exercise restraint and responsibility in the face of rising global tensions.
