The Anambra State Government has issued a strong warning: students absent from school on Mondays without valid justification will face a one-week suspension.
This is part of intensified efforts to end disruptions from the persistent Monday "sit-at-home" order in the South-East.
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, Commissioner for Education, announced the measure while summoning officials from two Onitsha private schools Mount Olive Schools and Spring Field Academy, GRA to explain low Monday attendance.
The policy supports Governor Chukwuma Soludo's directive to ensure full academic activities resume every Monday statewide.
“This measure is in line with the State Government’s resolve to ensure full resumption of academic activities on Mondays across Anambra," Chuma-Udeh said.
"I urge schools to comply with the directive.”Non-compliance will not be tolerated, with the commissioner stressing the need for cooperation from parents, teachers, and school leaders.
Mount Olive Schools reported improved attendance, while Spring Field Academy blamed parents' reluctance to send children early in the week.
Both pledged stronger adherence going forward.Separately, the Ministry of Education, through the Examination Development Centre, conducted the 2026 Transition Placement Examination at centres across the state.
The commissioner, joined by Permanent Secretary Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu, monitored proceedings at sites including Nnamdi Azikiwe University Demonstration School, Igwebeze Primary School, and Igwebuike Grammar School in Awka.
