The Labour Party (LP) has rolled out a new electronic membership registration portal as part of efforts to modernize operations and build a credible, verifiable database ahead of the 2027 general elections.
National Interim Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman unveiled the platform during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, explaining that it allows Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to register online without visiting physical offices.
Users can select their state of origin and download digital membership cards instantly upon completion.
"The Labour Party belongs to all Nigerians who believe in social justice, equality, and empowerment," Usman said.
"This platform enables supporters to register from anywhere in the world... Registration is completely free, and we warn against any fraudulent websites or individuals demanding payment for membership."
The party is currently administered by an Interim National Working Committee (also referred to as a National Caretaker Committee) in line with Supreme Court judgments and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) directives.
Usman and Board of Trustees member Lawson Osagie, a veteran trade unionist, confirmed that no formal party organs currently function at national, state, or local levels.
"There are no organs in existence at this time," Osagie stated. "All activities of the Labour Party are guided by the Supreme Court judgment and the directives of INEC."
The digital initiative addresses critical weaknesses exposed during the 2023 elections, including the lack of comprehensive membership records and insufficient polling agents, which limited the party's ability to monitor voting and pursue post-election litigation effectively.
Leaders emphasized that the secure, tested platform with advanced firewalls and data protection features will enable accurate categorization by state and local government area, better grassroots mobilization, and widespread agent deployment in future elections.
The launch signals a strategic push to reposition the Labour Party as a more organized, inclusive, and digitally enabled political force.
Usman urged supporters to register promptly via the official portal to strengthen internal democracy and prepare for upcoming congresses, conventions, and the 2027 polls.
Despite lingering reports of internal factional disputes, the caretaker leadership remains focused on rebuilding through transparency, digital innovation, and broad-based participation.
