Kwankwaso’s Son Resigns from NNPP, Plans to Join ADC

Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The former Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development announced his decision in a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Monday, March 30, 2026. He also confirmed that he is in the process of joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Mustapha, who serves as secretary of the Kwankwasiyya movement, described the move as “deliberate and well-considered.” “I want to inform the general public that as of today, I have officially resigned my membership from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

This decision has not been taken lightly, and I want to assure you that it is a deliberate and well-considered move,” he stated.“I am currently in the process of joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and I am excited about this new chapter in my political journey.”

He explained that his decision stems from a strong belief that the ADC is best positioned to deliver meaningful change and progress, especially in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.

“My decision to join the ADC is driven by my conviction that it is best positioned to bring the desired change and progress to our country, Nigeria, and particularly to our state, Kano. I believe that the ADC, with its vision and values, offers a viable platform for us to work together towards achieving our shared goals of good governance, economic prosperity, and improved well-being for all,” he added.

This development follows his father, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s own resignation from the NNPP and planned defection to the ADC on the same day. The moves signal a major realignment within the Kwankwasiyya political movement ahead of future elections.
