Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani today performed the groundbreaking for Batch One of the Reaching Out-Of-School Children (ROOSC) initiative, launching construction of 102 new schools and renovation of 170 existing ones across the state.
The ceremony took place at Rigasa Community in Igabi Local Government Area on March 5, 2026.
Funded through a multi-partner effort involving the Islamic Development Bank, Global Partnership for Education, Kuwait Fund, Education Above All, and Save the Children International (totaling around $62.8 million), the ROOSC project seeks to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children in Kaduna by improving access to quality, inclusive education.
Core components include:
New school buildings and rehabilitation of dilapidated facilities
Teacher training and capacity building
Provision of teaching/learning materials
Community mobilization and enrollment drives
The initiative targets reintegrating over 200,000 out-of-school children (with an initial focus on more than 100,000) into formal schooling over its four-year timeline.
Governor Sani described the project as a key step toward educational equity and a brighter future for Kaduna's children, highlighting strong partnerships and strategic focus on addressing one of Nigeria's most urgent challenges.
