An Iranian ballistic missile struck Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East and headquarters for U.S. Central Command, late Tuesday, according to confirmation from Qatar’s Ministry of Defence.
The ministry stated that two ballistic missiles were launched from Iranian territory toward Qatari airspace.
Air defense systems successfully intercepted one missile, while the second impacted within the vicinity of the base, located southwest of Doha.
Authorities emphasized that the strike caused no casualties and only limited damage, describing the incident as a "serious but contained escalation" in Iran's retaliatory campaign linked to ongoing U.S.-Israeli military operations against Tehran.
Residents in Doha reported hearing explosions prior to the official announcement. The base, which hosts approximately 10,000 U.S. personnel and serves as a critical hub for regional air operations and logistics, has been a focal point amid heightened tensions.
This incident follows a broader wave of Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. assets across Gulf nations hosting American forces, including Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
Qatar's defenses have intercepted dozens of threats in recent days, including over 100 ballistic missiles, multiple drones, and even two Iranian Su-24 aircraft shot down on March 2.
Iranian state-affiliated media have framed such strikes as efforts to counter U.S. support for operations against Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure.
U.S. officials have noted that integrated air defense systems, including Patriot batteries, have thwarted most incoming projectiles, though some reports indicate challenges in fully neutralizing certain threats.
Qatar has condemned the attacks as violations of its sovereignty and maintains a high state of alert, reaffirming its commitment to defending national territory while preserving diplomatic channels with all parties.
