A 30-year-old officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Wofai Benson Akpama, has been found dead in his apartment in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.
Akpama was discovered lifeless in his room at No. 34 Mbora Street, Etta-Agbor, within Calabar Municipality.
A source, who identified herself as Joy Benson of Holland Street, told journalists on Tuesday that she reported the incident to the police on Friday after discovering what she described as a sudden and unnatural death.
“I informed the police about the sudden and unnatural death on Friday. Immediately, the police visited the scene, where the remains were observed,” she said.
Police sources disclosed that no visible marks of violence were found on the body and that no foul play was initially suspected.
The corpse was later evacuated to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, told PUNCH Metro that the matter was under investigation.
“The case was reported to us last week. We have yet to identify any suspect, but an investigation is ongoing,” he said.
