Seyi Law, the Nigerian standup comedian, has voiced strong support for President Bola Tinubu, saying he is “willing to stake everything on him”.
Speaking at
the All Progressive Congress (APC) convention held in Abuja on Friday, Seyi
disclosed that his unwavering stance stems from his belief that Tinubu rescued
Nigeria from an “economic collapse”.
The comedian also argued that the national reserve has seen
significant growth since the president assumed office.
“And I said to myself, if I was to introduce Mr President,
how would I do it? And I just said I will let people know that this is a man
that I am willing to stake everything for because he is the man that brought
Nigeria back from the brink of economic collapse when our national reserve
stood at barely $1 billion,” he said.
“But today we celebrate our national reserve that is about
$40 billion and our gross reserve that is at about $50.7 billion.”
Seyi endorsed Tinubu as his preferred presidential candidate
during the 2023 general elections.
The comedian recently faced public criticism after he claimed that
the country “is currently safer under the Tinubu administration than it was a
decade ago”.
Following the criticism, he issued a
public apology, acknowledging that his choice of words was hurtful and
describing the statement as a mistake.
