The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Sununu, has resigned his appointment to pursue a senatorial ambition in Kebbi State.
His resignation follows a directive from the Kebbi State
Government mandating all political office holders intending to contest the 2027
general elections to step down from their positions on or before March 31,
2026.
The directive, issued in a circular dated March 2, 2026,
from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, aligns with existing
laws and regulations to ensure due process for public office holders seeking
elective positions.
Sununu assumed office at the Ministry of Humanitarian
Affairs in November 2024 and had previously served as Minister of State for
Education.
Before his ministerial appointments, he represented
Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where
he chaired the Committee on Healthcare Services.
His resignation is part of a broader wave of departures by
public office holders in Kebbi State preparing for the 2027 general elections.
