Gov Soludo Makes Surprise Visit to State Secretariat, Issues Warning to Underperforming Workers

In a decisive move to revamp the state's civil service, Anambra Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo paid an unscheduled visit to the State Secretariat in Awka on Thursday, where he personally assessed staff punctuality, conduct, and dedication to duty.

The governor toured various ministries and departments, interacting directly with workers to gauge the prevailing work culture. He described his findings as “a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly,” while praising disciplined civil servants who consistently arrive on time and uphold professional standards, calling them vital to his administration’s development goals.

However, Soludo delivered a clear warning to non-performing staff: those who fail to align with the government’s vision, including chronic lateness and absenteeism, risk being shown the exit door.

“The era of lacklustre performance and entitlement in the civil service has come to an end,” he stated firmly. “Those who fail to meet time-keeping standards will be shown the way out.”The governor emphasised his commitment to building an agile, effective, and efficient civil service through three major reform pillars:

Deployment of technology via digital workflows to boost speed and transparency.

Strengthened supervision and rigorous performance tracking for greater accountability.

Continued infrastructural upgrades to create a better working environment.

“We have invested significantly in this place,” Soludo noted. “The ongoing infrastructural upgrades must be reciprocated with a renewed sense of duty and productivity from the workforce.”

He added that the surprise inspection reflects the administration’s determination to transform the state bureaucracy into a high-performing institution capable of delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people of Anambra.
