Kinsmen of former President Goodluck Jonathan from Ogbia Local Government Area in Bayelsa State have firmly declared their commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasizing that the party has delivered unprecedented political opportunities to their community, including producing a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The pledge comes shortly after former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, defected from the PDP to the newly formed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal crises and leadership issues within the opposition party.
The reaffirmation of loyalty followed the successful and peaceful conduct of PDP Local Government Area (LGA) congresses across Bayelsa's eight councils on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Speaking at the congress held at the Ogbia Brotherhood Hall in Ogbia Town, Acting Chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State and South-South Zonal Secretary, Barr. Alabh George Turnah, praised the orderly process and massive turnout.
He highlighted the deep-rooted appreciation among Ogbia people for the PDP's contributions to their political advancement.“This party gave to Ogbia LGA everything we would have ever asked for in politics,” Turnah stated. “PDP gave us the deputy governor, acting governor, gave us a governor, gave us a vice president, gave us acting President, and eventually, gave us the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”Turnah urged residents of Ogbia and the broader Bayelsa State to remain steadfast in their support for the PDP. “We will continue to stand by the PDP, we are grateful people,” he said.
“My message to the people of Ogbia LGA and indeed Bayelsa is that we should keep faith with this party, keep hope alive for joy is coming.”
He described the large participation from delegates across the state's 105 wards as evidence of the party's organic strength and unity. “As a family, we should keep faith in God and keep hope alive, for joy is coming. PDP is Bayelsa and Bayelsa is PDP. The support base for PDP in Bayelsa State is organic.”
Turnah commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for monitoring the congress in compliance with regulations and thanked party faithful for their dedication in traveling to participate. He congratulated the newly elected LGA officials and encouraged them to uphold the party's principles and objectives.
