FULL LIST: Alao-Akala’s properties in Nigeria, UK, US subject of family dispute

A dispute over the estate of Adebayo Alao-Akala, former governor of Oyo state, has revealed an extensive list of properties linked to the late politician.

The development follows proceedings at an Oyo state high court, where Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, the first daughter of the deceased, is challenging the administration of the estate.

The list shows that the late politician owned multiple assets, including properties in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and a five-star hotel in Ghana.

Aderinto, in a suit marked I/443/2024, approached the court seeking intervention over the handling of the estate.

Joined as defendants in the case are Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, wife of the deceased, and Olamide Alabi, daughter of the deceased, identified in court documents as executors and administrators of the estate.

Aderinto told the court that she has both legal and equitable interests in the estate as the deceased’s first daughter.

She alleged that some assets had already been sold without her knowledge or consent, and that moves were ongoing to dispose of other properties or enter joint venture arrangements involving the estate.

The claimant argued that urgent intervention was necessary to prevent further transactions that could undermine her interest. She added that failure to grant the injunction could lead to irreversible loss.

Ruling on the application, the court restrained Oluwakemi and Alabi from selling or entering into transactions involving any of the properties pending the determination of the suit.

The court granted an interlocutory injunction halting further transactions and ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.

The claimant is also seeking a court directive for DNA tests to be conducted on herself and six others – Olamide, Adebukola, Olamipo, Olamiju (a current member of the house of representatives), Tabitha, and Olamikunle.

She wants the tests conducted at a court-approved, accredited laboratory to establish their biological relationship with the late politician.

As part of her application, Aderinto is also seeking an order for the exhumation of her father’s remains to conduct the paternity tests. She asked that the results be submitted under seal to the presiding judge and only unsealed for pronouncement in open court.

The court adjourned the matter to April 16, 2026, for ruling on the request.
