A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Adam Abdullahi on Tuesday sentenced four armed robbers to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of N10,000
The convicts are Shafi’u Abubakar, Usman Suleiman, Usman Sa’idu, and Ali Isah.
The defendants were arraigned on three counts, including criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, punishable under Sections 97 and 298(c) of the Penal Code.
The convicts, all residents of Rijiyar Lemo, Kano, conspired to commit armed robbery in residential houses located at Sabon Garin Doka and Bankaura communities in Ungoggo Local Government Area of the state.
First count of the charges reads that on 22nd July 2024, between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m., the defendants, armed with deadly weapons, entered the houses of Abdullahi Musa (Bankaura Quarters, Ungogo LGA) and Mansur Muazu (Sabon Garin Doka, Ungogo LGA), attacked them, and stole valuable. This act constitutes an offence punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code.
The second count reads that on the same date at about 3:00 a.m, the defendants attacked and robbed Abdullahi Musa at his residence in Bankaura Quarters, Ungogo LGA. Items stolen included one Infinix phone valued at N50,000, One Tecno keypad phone valued at N5,000, a Lifan motorcycle valued at N700,000, and cash amounting to N800. This offence is punishable under Section 298(c) of the Penal Code.
The third count reads that at about 4:00 a.m. on 22nd July, 2024, the defendants attacked and robbed Mansur Muazu at his residence in Sabon Garin Doka, Ungogo LGA. They stole cash amounting to N201,000 and cash amounting to 500 CFA.
This offence is also punishable under Section 298(c) of the Penal Code.
To prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Garba Arif, called two witnesses.
On the other hand, the defendants, represented by defence counsel Barrister Basira Yunus, changed their plea from “not guilty” to “guilty.”
The court summarily tried the defendants, found them guilty on all three counts, and sentenced them to 10 years’ imprisonment with a fine of N10,000 for each count.
The Court ordered that the sentences will run concurrently, starting from the date of their arrest, 22nd July 2024.
