A fire outbreak has destroyed three residential buildings in the Gaida area near Fatima Bread in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday around 11:05 a.m., was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the agency’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one Aminu Bello, reporting the fire outbreak.
Firefighters from the agency’s headquarters, as well as Sharada and Rijiyar Zaki fire stations, were immediately deployed to the scene.
“On arrival, our personnel discovered that an open area measuring about 50 by 50 feet, used as an electrical transformer site, was engulfed in flames,” the statement said.
The fire was said to have spread from the transformer site to nearby structures, affecting three residential buildings.
The first building, a ground-floor structure measuring about 30 by 25 feet, comprising one room, a parlour and a toilet, was completely affected.
The second building, a one-storey structure measuring about 30 by 30 feet, with a bedroom, kitchen and toilet, was also gutted by fire, particularly the upper floor.
Similarly, the third building, a ground-floor structure of about 30 by 30 feet, consisting of two rooms and a toilet, was also razed.
“The cause of the fire was identified as an electrical spark,” the statement added.
The Director of the Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to take preventive measures against fire outbreaks.
He said, “Members of the public are advised to avoid open flames in public and residential areas and ensure proper handling of electrical appliances to prevent such incidents.”
No casualty was reported as of the time of filing this report.
