The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, 2026, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays across Nigeria to mark Eid-el-Fitr, the celebration concluding the Ramadan fast.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated Muslims on successfully completing the month of fasting and encouraged peaceful celebrations, reflection, and family time during the period.
The two-day break aligns with the expected moon sighting that will confirm Eid on Friday, March 20.
Federal workers, students, and the public will enjoy the time off from official activities for prayers, feasting, and community gatherings.
The government called on all citizens to uphold unity, tolerance, and peace, while security agencies have been instructed to maintain safety nationwide.
The declaration covers federal institutions, with most states expected to adopt similar observances.
