Enugu-Onitsha Highway: Tinubu has ended decades of unfulfilled electoral promises – Ohanaeze

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for the completion of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway project.

Ohanaeze said the reopening scheduled for March 31, 2026 has ended the persistent cries for attention.

According to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, for over twenty-four years, the Enugu-Onitsha route has been a perilous burden and a grave danger for the people of South-East zone and other road users across the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Chief Chineyeze Ohia, National Spokesperson, Ohanaeze said:

“In stark contrast, President Tinubu’s era witnesses a decisive departure from this lamentable norm.

“The joyous announcement of the reopening of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by the Federal Ministry of Works, scheduled for 31st March 2026, has been received with uncontainable enthusiasm and overwhelming joy by Ndigbo.

“President Tinubu is not merely altering the narrative of the Igbo experience; he is effecting a substantive infrastructural revolution in the Southeast.

“The new dual carriageway, spanning 107 kilometers on each side, represents a significant legacy project that will undoubtedly reshape the political decision of Ndigbo in favor of President Tinubu as we approach the 2027 elections.

“As citizens and members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo celebrate this historic achievement, we also take this opportunity to make a cordial yet urgent request to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We implore the release of additional funds to expedite the completion of ongoing Federal road projects across the Southeast, notably the Markudi-Nsukka-Nightmile-Enugu Expressway and the Calabar-Abakiliki-Benue-Abuja Super Highway.

“The urgency for robust road infrastructure development in the Southeast cannot be overstated, particularly in light of the pressing needs of Ndigbo, who yearn for progress and reliable connectivity. Such advancements are imperative and should take precedence over any overtures from the opposition coalition leadership.

“The reopening of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway marks not just the restoration of a vital transportation artery but symbolizes hope, revitalization, and growth for Ndigbo.

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi for this momentous achievement and eagerly await the continuation of this positive trajectory that has begun to uplift our region.”
