The Edo State Police Command has arrested 65 suspected kidnappers in a coordinated midnight operation, recovering ₦1,850,000 believed to be ransom payments, along with Nigerian Army uniforms, kits, and other incriminating items.
The operation took place on March 2 at Zango and Max Square Properties in Aviele, Etsako West Local Government Area. According to the command's spokesperson, DSP Eno Ikoedem, technical analysis and intelligence linked ransom negotiation activities to the location, prompting the swift raid.
No casualties were recorded during the exercise, which was described as professional and targeted.
The suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Police Headquarters in Benin City for discreet investigation to determine their specific roles in kidnapping activities.
Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives for their dedication and professionalism.
He reiterated the command's resolve to dismantle kidnapping syndicates across Edo State and called for continued support and cooperation from members of the public in providing timely information to security agencies.
The arrest forms part of ongoing intensified efforts by the Edo Police Command to curb the menace of kidnapping in the state.
