National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, yesterday, called on his supporters in Plateau State, who are aggrieved with Governor Caleb Mutfwang to drop such animosity, stressing that both of them are now working together in the interest of the state.
Speaking at the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, Yilwatda said he had never had any personal quarrel with the governor, explaining that their previous differences were purely political.
The APC national chairman, who was received with ovation by the congregation during Sunday service, also solicited prayers as he pilots what he described as the biggest political party in Africa.
According to him, with both of them now in the same political camp, their focus is to ensure development and peace for Plateau people.
“Today, I want to also thank God for two reasons. We’ve united with my brother (Governor Mutfwang) in the same party, and we will provide the best we can and, by the grace of God and with your support, we will ensure that Plateau actually gets what it deserves at the national level and state level,” he said.
Emphasising that there was never a personal rift between them, Yilwatda added: “We never had any personal problem and we never had any personal grudges. What we had was a political difference. We’ve closed those gaps, and we’re working together to ensure that we provide peace for our people, provide development for our people, and provide support for our people at any needed time.”
Calling for unity among supporters, he urged anyone harbouring grievances against the governor on his account to let go.
“He’s aware I’m here, and I’m also aware of where he is. So we have a strong partnership. So I’m calling upon anybody who is hearing my voice: If you have any political difference with Mutfwang because of me or for any reason, please let bygones be bygones and let peace reign supreme in our state.”
Yilwatda also thanked the church for its prayers, saying djvine grace had helped him manage the affairs of the ruling party at a time of growing membership and internal activities.
“Lastly, I thank you also for your prayers. I’m holding and running the biggest party ever in the history of Nigeria, and every day people are streaming into the party, and we are running our own congresses.
“We are having the most peaceful congress ever in the history of our party. This is not my strength, it is not my wisdom, but it is the grace of God and the prayers of people like you, who daily pray for me, for grace and wisdom to run the party and to also manage the country effectively. Thank you and God bless you.”
Yesterday’s declaration came on the heels of the recent endorsement of Governor Mutfwang for a second term by Yilwatda during the governor’s defection to the APC, a development seen by observers as a move to consolidate political unity in Plateau ahead of future elections.
