The Kano State House of Assembly has launched impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
A motion backed by 38 members was moved during a special session, accusing him of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust. The allegations cover his time as Commissioner for Local Government (2023–2024) and his current role.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Hussaini Dala, cited Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the legal foundation. A formal notice of allegations has been served on the deputy governor, giving him 14 days to respond and present his defense.
If the process continues, the assembly may set up an investigative panel, which could eventually lead to a vote on his removal. The move reflects deepening political divisions in Kano, following recent defections and shifting alliances.
This development represents a major escalation in the state's political crisis, with the assembly commanding a decisive majority. Updates are expected once the deputy governor submits his response.
