Benue Police Kill 3 Suspected Bandits, Rescue Senator in Separate Operations

Security forces in Benue State have neutralized three suspected bandits in a gun battle and separately rescued Senator Udende Emmanuel following an attack on his convoy.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the bandit operation followed the abduction and murder of 67-year-old Zaki Sughter Agenbeer in Une Tongov community, Katsina-Ala LGA, on March 7.

The attackers, allegedly linked to a local kingpin known as Chen, accused the victim of sharing information with security agencies. They kidnapped him from his home, took him into the bush, and killed him.

In swift response, the Divisional Police Officer of Katsina-Ala, working with counterparts from Ukum, deployed patrol and tactical teams. The pursuit ended in a shootout that left three suspects dead. The victim's body was recovered and taken to Zaki Ibiam Hospital mortuary.

Security forces continue searching surrounding forests for other fleeing gang members. In a separate incident, Senator Udende Emmanuel (Benue North-East) was rescued by police after his convoy was attacked by youths in Tsua town, Vandeikya LGA, during a church visit.

One vehicle in the convoy sustained damage. The Divisional Police Officer in Vandeikya quickly deployed officers to the scene, ensuring the senator's safe extraction.

These incidents shows the Benue State Police Command's ongoing efforts to tackle banditry and provide rapid response to threats against civilians and public officials in the face of persistent security challenges in the region. No additional casualties or arrests were reported from the senator's attack.
