Bandits Kill 13 Guests at Wedding in Kaduna Village, Abduct Several Others

Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State was thrown into mourning after armed bandits invaded a wedding celebration on Sunday night, killing 13 people and abducting an unspecified number of guests.

The attack occurred around 11:47 pm when a large group of bandits, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the wedding venue and opened fire indiscriminately inside the hall, eyewitnesses said.

A resident, Shehu Bala, who confirmed the incident, told reporters that several people sustained gunshot injuries. Most were rushed to Kagarko General Hospital, while two with severe wounds were transferred to Kaduna for further treatment.

“I have two friends who were inside the hall and sustained bullet injuries,” Bala said. “It is difficult to know the exact number of those kidnapped because of the heavy shooting.”A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, named the deceased as: Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, Peter Williams, Joseph Yakubu, Victor Peter, John Dan Asabe, Angulu Markus, Maikano Aribi, Douglas John, Ado Yakubu, Zaphaniah Alhaji, Joseph Kaddah, and Francis Unguwa Doya.

The bandits operated unchallenged for nearly an hour, looting shops and carting away foodstuffs, provisions, and drugs from a local chemist shop. All the victims have since been buried.

The attack caused widespread panic in the community, with many residents fleeing into the bush to escape the sporadic gunfire.A police source at the Kagarko division confirmed the incident but said authorities are still working to determine the exact number of people abducted. Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Hassan Mansur, also verified the attack, stating that a comprehensive report would be released once full details are obtained.

Meanwhile, the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, and Senator Sani Musa visited the injured victims receiving treatment at the hospital in Kagarko.

The incident adds to growing concerns over banditry in the area. Daily Trust earlier reported that several communities in Kagarko, including Janjala, have been under repeated attacks. Fourteen people, including a vigilante operative and his wife, abducted three weeks ago, are still in captivity.
