Bandits Impose Curfew, Demand ₦30m Levy on Senator Bilbis' Hometown in Zamfara

Armed bandits have reportedly imposed a strict curfew and demanded a ₦30 million levy from residents of Bilbis town in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, plunging the community into fear and lockdown.

Bilbis town is the hometown of Senator Ikira Aliyu Bilbis, who represents Zamfara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the incident, highlighting the ongoing siege in the area. According to reports, the gunmen ordered residents to remain indoors and enforced the lockdown until the demanded payment is made.

The community is said to be living in terror amid the bandits' control over movement and their extortion demands.

Some accounts from related reports indicate the lockdown has lasted over 10 days in an indefinite indoor restriction, with residents under severe humanitarian distress.

This latest extortion follows a pattern of banditry in Zamfara State, where armed groups frequently target rural communities with levies, kidnappings, and violence, often exploiting ungoverned spaces in the northwest region.

No immediate official response from security agencies or the senator has been detailed in reports, though the incident underscores persistent insecurity challenges in Zamfara despite ongoing military operations in the area.

Residents continue to face restricted daily life and pressure to meet the financial demand to avert further attacks.
