Boxing superstar Anthony Joshua has officially changed his residency to the United Arab Emirates, naming Dubai as his new home base despite the ongoing regional tensions and attacks affecting the city.
The 36-year-old former heavyweight champion, an Olympic gold medallist from London 2012 and born in Watford to Nigerian parents, confirmed the move in recent company filings for his £150 million business empire, including Sparta Promotions Limited and 258 Investments Limited.
The decision comes as the UAE faces repeated Iranian drone and missile strikes linked to the wider conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel.
Recent incidents have disrupted parts of Dubai, prompting many British expatriates and visitors to seek urgent evacuation, some at significant cost.
Dubai continues to attract high-profile figures with its elite training facilities, no personal income tax, and luxurious lifestyle.
Joshua has long used the city for training camps, brand work, and leisure including a famous 2017 sparring session on the Burj Al Arab helipad and recent sessions with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The relocation follows a challenging period for Joshua, including the tragic 2025 car accident in Nigeria that killed two close friends and team members, personal trainer Kevin ‘Latz’ Ayodele and therapist Sina Ghami.
He has since shared updates on his physical and emotional recovery.Joshua joins other prominent Britons who have moved to low-tax jurisdictions, such as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Stelios Haji-Ioannou in Monaco.
The move also echoes experiences shared by former footballer Rio Ferdinand, who has described life in Dubai during the recent unrest.
While the timing has raised eyebrows given the security situation, Joshua’s longstanding connection to Dubai points to a combination of business, training, and personal factors behind the change.
