Tension has flared in Edo State following the circulation of a viral video showing young men pulling down a campaign billboard belonging to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Esan area of the state.
In the footage shared online, the individuals were heard
declaring: “Anything concerning the ADC party in Edo State, we don’t want it
here.”
The men reportedly used ladders and ropes to dismantle the
billboard, sparking widespread condemnation across social media platforms.
Several Nigerians have reacted strongly to the development,
describing the act as undemocratic and criminal.
@Henry Chinonso wrote: “This is a simple criminal vandalism
that can land these guys some jail terms. We have laws and they must be
pursued. ADC should make sure they show example with these ones. Else, it’s a
complete banana republic.”
@oluwatosin added: “This kind thing no dey right at all.
Pulling down billboards with ladders and ropes because you no like one party?
That’s not how we do democracy for Edo or anywhere in Naija.”
Another user, @Ebubelke1, criticized the individuals
involved, stating: “That idiot pulling the banner might not have anything in
his name at his age because of the poor system of the political party he
supports. A fool at 40.”
@Vee Delance Properties described the act as hypocritical:
“This is terrible. When it happens to their own posters and signs, they will
declare a state of emergency.”
Raising concerns over selective enforcement, @Ayobola Ayo
wrote: “But if APC/Tinubus billboards and posters are been taken down, the
state govt will send police after them! A very vzeless maladministration!”
Meanwhile, a user identified as @PETER OBI’s TRUMPETER
referenced remarks allegedly made by actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo,
stating:
“‘Anarchy looms’ according to Kenneth Okonkwo. You can’t do
this and still say we are in democracy.”
@Tochi (Nfunaala) condemned the act outright:
“Stupid set of people, no wonder the state is backward.”
However, the rhetoric escalated further when @BelieveGod
posted:
“They can’t outnumber Edo youths. Let’s give them war if the
police and DSS won’t go after them.”
